WASHINGTON -- The Mets’ undermanned bullpen got a new face Wednesday night when Pedro Beato was activated from the disabled list.

Beato, the righthander from Brooklyn who was rehabbing an inflamed shoulder at Triple-A Buffalo, replaced Chris Young on the roster.

Young was placed on paternity leave after his wife gave birth to the couple’s third child. Young made his first start of the season on Tuesday. The Mets continued to play a man short as Jon Rauch was resting his sore elbow in New York.
