Poll results: Leading off for the Yankees . . .
Derek Jeter led the majors last season in plate appearances, at-bats and hits en route to a .316 batting average.
Of his 649 at-bats, only 34 weren't from the leadoff position in the lineup. Of his 216 hits, just 10 came when he hit second. (That's a .303 average hitting second, and .317 hitting first.)
Yet, in our latest reader poll -- the science of which rivals nothing -- Jeter was the third option to hit leadoff for the Yankees in 2013. Below are the results, based on 251 votes between Monday and Tuesday.
Who should hit in the leadoff position for the Yankees?
Brett Gardner 39%
Ichiro Suzuki 37%
Derek Jeter 24%
