MIAMI -- Mets manager Terry Collins said on Wednesday morning that he's been pleased with his team's approach at the plate, even though that approach hasn't led to any results.

While the Mets continue to work counts, he said the issue has stemmed from simply missing good pitches to hit, and failing to do damage against opposing bullpens. Hitting coach Dave Hudgens echoed the message, preaching patience even as the offense sputters.

"We've just got to stick with our approach and stay confident," Hudgens said. "It turns. We've just got to stick with it and not panic."

Of course, that may be easier said than done considering these horrendous numbers during the Mets' six-game losing streak:

Average -- .165
On-base percentage -- .236
Slugging -- .262
Runs -- 11
Runs per game -- 1.8
Left on base -- 40
Walks -- 19
Strikeouts -- 55

Ouch. Collins considered starting Justin Turner to get his hot bat into the lineup. He's 4-for-8 in his last four games. Recently, he has been taking fly balls in left field, thus giving the Mets another place to stash him defensively when they want his bat in the lineup.

But Collins ultimately decided against starting the righthanded hitting Turner. Instead, Collins started the lefty hitting Ike Davis, a move spurred partly by lefty Wade LeBlanc's reverse platoon splits. Lefties (1.067 OPS) have hit him harder than righties (.873) this season.

The lineups for this series finale:

Mets (10-15)

Ruben Tejada SS
Daniel Murphy 2B
David Wright 3B
John Buck C
Lucas Duda LF
Marlon Byrd RF
Ike Davis 1B
Juan Lagares CF
Dillon Gee RHP

Marlins (8-19)

Juan Pierre LF
Donovan Solano 2B
Greg Dobbs 1B
Justin Ruggiano CF
Marcell Ozuna RF
Chris Valaika 3B
Miguel Olivo C
Nick Green SS
Wade LeBlanc LHP
