BALTIMORE — Ivan Nova (inflamed right rotator cuff) is eligible to come off the DL Friday, but Girardi wasn’t prepared to say where he will fit in when he does return.

“We haven’t really talked about that,” Girardi said when asked directly if the struggling righthander will slide back into the rotation.

He later said: “We consider him a rotation guy. We don’t consider him a bullpen guy. But I want to see how he feels [Friday] before I decide what’s next for him.”

If Nova does return to the rotation, it will be in place of either David Phelps, Thursday night’s starter, or Freddy Garcia, who is scheduled to start Sunday.
