Yankees make push for David Robertson in All-Star Game final vote
David Robertson has only been named to an All-Star Game once in his six years in the big leagues, but the Yankees are hoping to change that.
The Yankees reliever was named one of five candidates for the American League All-Star roster's final vote Saturday, and the Yankees have taken social media by storm to try to get fans to vote Robertson into the 2013 game at Citi Field next Tuesday.
The Yankees have devoted their official Twitter handle to Robertson's campaign with a new "Vote Robertson" button as their profile photo and a picture of Robertson pitching as their header photo. Fans can vote for Robertson on yankees.com or by using the Twitter hashtag of #HighSocksForVotes, in honor of the reliever's old-school style socks and a play on words of his nonprofit, High Socks for Hope.
Fans can place their votes from now until the deadline at 4 p.m. July 11.
Rounding out the American League final vote candidates are relief pitchers Joaquin Benoit (Detroit Tigers), Steve Delabar (Toronto Blue Jays), Tanner Scheppers (Texas Rangers) and Koji Uehara (Boston Red Sox).
Rookie outfielder Yasiel Puig of the Los Angeles Dodgers highlights the National League final vote, which also includes Ian Desmond (Washington Nationals), Freddie Freeman (Atlanta Braves), Adrian Gonzalez (Los Angeles Dodgers) and Hunter Pence (San Francisco Giants).
