WASHINGTON -- Hastened by a youth movement that has solidified the bullpen, the starting rotation, and parts of the starting lineup, the complexion of the Mets has changed since the last time they faced the Nationals on May 18.

The Nationals have claimed Matt Thornton off waivers, and the Yankees have sent the lefthanded reliever to Washington, the team announced Tuesday afternoon.

Thornton had a 2.55 ERA in 46 games this season and held lefthanded hitters to a .250 average in 56 at-bats. Righthanders hit .243 against him in 37 at-bats.

Dellin Betances rarely gets the hook from his manager. That’s probably because opposing managers hate getting the hook from Betances.

The Yankees reliever's curveball was rated the best in the American League in a Baseball America survey of all 30 MLB managers.

Well, that was weird.

Jenrry Mejia and Jeurys Familia have been so good in the bullpen that until Monday’s 4-3 loss to the Giants, there hadn’t surrendered a run in the same game all season.
