Reno’s team nickname is the “Aces”. If any of their other pitchers perform like Andrew Chafin did Thursday night, the moniker is well deserved.

Chafin allowed just four hits, all singles, and didn’t walk a batter during nine shutout innings as Diamondbacks affiliate Reno downed Las Vegas, 6-0, in Game 2 of the Pacific Coast League semifinals. The best-of-five series is now tied at 1-1.

If momentum really is only as good as the next day's starting pitcher, the Binghamton Mets never had a chance with Greg Peavey on the mound.

Any momentum the Mets’ had following Wednesday’s walk-off win was washed away as an ineffective Peavey lasted a mere six outs during Portland’s 7-0 thrashing of Binghamton in Game 2 of the Eastern League Eastern Division series.

The best-of-five...

Mets hitting coach says Curtis Granderson may need some winter work to fix his swing

MIAMI -- Mets hitting coach Lamar Johnson prefers to leave his players’ swings alone. That’s especially true in the middle of the season, when large-scale adjustments can be difficult to make.

The offseason, however, is a different matter. And that's particularly relevant to struggling Mets slugger Curtis Granderson, who Johnson said may be due for some offseason changes that go beyond just...

MIAMI -- This week, I asked Mets centerfielder Juan Lagares about his favorite defensive plays of the season. At first, he sounded like a parent who was put on the spot, asked to choose between children.

“Every time I do something good, I like them all,” Lagares said.

This season, he’s done a lot of good. By one advanced metric, Lagares has 30 defensive runs saved, the most of any centerfielder...

Perhaps Instagram commenter stevenmurray10 said it best: "Use your left hand next time!"

Mets top pitching prospect Noah Syndergaard recently took a trip to the Lion Habitat Ranch in Henderson, Nevada, a 20 minute drive down I-15 south from Cashman Field, where Syndergaard plays with the Mets' Triple-A squad, the Las Vegas 51s

The Lion Habitat Ranch offers, for $100, the chance to hand...

MIAMI -- Terry Collins managed Craig Biggio for three seasons with the Astros from 1994 to 1996. In that time, Collins figured it would only be a matter of time until his All-Star second baseman would become a big league skipper.

“I always told him, ‘one of these days you’ll be managing in the big leagues,’” Collins told Newsday. “And I hope you’ll get one of these guys like you on your team.”

(Credit: Jim McIsaac)

MIAMI -- The Bartolo Colon trade watch has been postponed until the offseason.

The Mets did not deal the veteran righthander before Monday’s deadline for waiver trades, ensuring that he will remain under team control for the rest of the season. But in the winter, the Mets once again will be expected to explore trading the 41-year-old, in hopes that they'll find more fertile ground for a deal.

Colon...
