Of all the free agent decisions the Yankees made prior to the 2013 season, two are quite notable as the playoffs arrive: letting Nick Swisher and Russell Martin walk.

At the end of the 2012 season the team faced decisions on five significant free agents: Nick Swisher, Ichiro Suzuki, Russell Martin, Eric Chavez and Raul Ibanez.
