Mets fireballer Matt Harvey was locked in a tight National League Cy Young battle with Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw until it was discovered Harvey had a partially torn ligament in his right elbow and would be shut down for the season.
It seems like the award is Kershaw’s for the taking at this point, and Harvey’s case has all but gone out the window.
But Marlins rookie phenom Jose Fernandez...Read more »

Wins have long been used to measure a starter, dating to when...Read more »

The debate about whether Matt Harvey should start the All-Star Game is moot. At least to Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw, the pitcher most frequently mentioned as an alternative to Harvey.
“He should,” Kershaw told FOXSports.com. “There’s no reason, especially if it’s in New York, that he shouldn’t start. That’s what the fans will want. I’ve got no problem with that.”
By traditional measures,...Read more »
Forget the fact that Citi Field is Matt Harvey’s stadium.
Forget that the Mets’ phenom has taken the baseball landscape by storm.
Focus simply on this: Harvey should start the All-Star Game because he’s the best pitcher in the National League so far this season.
Of course, there are several legitimate candidates in the conversation. Pittsburgh’s Jeff Locke has a 2.06 ERA. Arizona’s...Read more »
1,623 - RBIs for Chipper Jones, the career leader among third basemen who had his number retired Friday by the Braves at Turner Field. Former President Jimmy Carter was even in attendance. As perfect a night it was for Jones, hard to believe the Braves were nice enough to not schedule the Mets for that particular homestand.
$500M - Anticipated cost of Wrigley Field renovation, part of which...Read more »
