First baseman and trade candidate Ike Davis did not tell the Mets about an oblique injury he had during his poor 2013 season because "the timing was bad," he told the New York Post on Sunday.
But he walked back the severity of the injury during an agitated interview session with reporters on Monday morning.

Recently on SNY, Mets manager Terry Collins revealed his plan to give the notoriously slow-starting Ike Davis more at-bats this spring – perhaps almost twice as many as he had in 2013 spring training.

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. -- The Mets will broadcast 14 of their spring training home games this season, SNY announced on Tuesday, starting with the club’s Grapefruit League opener on Feb. 28 against the Nationals.

In Sunday’s editions of Newsday, we wrote about Steven Matz, the 22-year-old Ward Melville product who got his career back on track with an impressive season at Class-A Savannah.
