A-Rod gets the night off
Alex Rodriguez was passing the clubhouse door, going for some early hacks in the cage, when a reporter asked the obvious question: “Are you OK?” It was obvious because the lineup was posted on that door and Rodriguez’s name was not on it.
He seemed in good spirits, answering, “I’m OK. How about you?” It was just a night off, period. “He has played every game to this point,” Joe Girardi said. “Just trying to be proactive, not running him into the ground where we have to give him a couple days off. To me he has swung the bat very well.”
Samantha Prahalis, the former Commack star who was picked sixth overall by the Phoenix Mercury in the WNBA draft this week, was at the game. She is the niece of Twins bench coach Scott Ullger, a former quarterback for Plainview Kennedy and shortstop for St. John’s.
“I thought it was great,” Ullger said of the draft. “From what I read, it’s a team that will fit her style.” Ullger said his first chance to see her play in person might come in June, when the Mercury visits Minnesota for a night game. “We have a day game that day,” he said.
The Yankees are upbeat about wearing throwback team uniforms for the first time tomorrow
“I haven’t seen them yet, but it’s going to be great,” Nick Swisher said, adding that a nice touch would be to wear narrow brimmed caps. In 1996, the club wore the uniforms of the New York Black Yankees, but it never has worn a throwback version of the Yankees (nee Highlanders) uniform.
