Former MLB star Manny Ramirez poses for media

$25,000 - Monthly salary, in U.S. dollars, paid by the Taiwan Rhinos to Manny Ramirez, who quit the league this week despite the team’s pledge to raise it to $60,000. Ramirez made more than $206 million during his major-league career, which was abruptly cut short by a PED suspension.

500 - Hours of community service that must be performed by Lenny Dykstra, who was released from prison after doing time for bankruptcy fraud. No idea what shape Nails is in, but playing for the Mets doesn’t count, even if it tends to feel like community service these days.

101 - Top speed of Gerrit Cole’s fastball Friday, the highest velocity for a pitch thrown this season. It took only three days to surpass the mark set by Matt Harvey, who struck out Jason Heyward with a 100.1-mph pitch in Game 1 of Super Tuesday’s doubleheader.

12 - Players left from the Rangers’ 2011 World Series team that must have experienced some bad flashbacks this weekend in the team’s return to St. Louis for the first time since that seven-game loss. Texas and the ’86 Red Sox are the only teams to be an out away from winning the World Series without finishing the job.

3 - Blown saves in 12 chances for Jose Valverde, whom the Tigers designated for assignment. In 2011, Valverde converted 49 opportunities without a blown save, but his erratic playoff performance since then had him jobless this season before Detroit gave him another chance, and pulled the plug again.
