Mets sign OF Andrew Brown
The Mets on Wednesday announced the signing of power-hitting outfielder Andrew Brown to a minor-league contract with an invitation to spring training.
Brown, 28, had appeared in the majors in 2011 with the Cardinals and last year with the Rockies. In 2012, the righthanded hitter batted .232 with five home runs and 11 RBIs in 46 games for Colorado. He was also a Pacific Coast League All-Star last season (.308, 24 HRs, 98 RBIs for Colorado Springs).
Last month, the Mets traded with Oakland for righthanded hitter Colin Cowgill. Their current starting outfield is Lucas Duda, Kirk Nieuwenhuis and Mike Baxter. So they obviously need outfielders. Scott Hairston is still a free agent.
