The Mets placed Shaun Marcum on waivers for his unconditional release, the team announced Tuesday.

The release comes after the Mets found out Marcum would be unable to pitch again this season after being diagnosed with thoracic outlet syndrome July 9.

Dustin Pedroia will remain in Boston through at least the 2021 season after reportedly agreeing to a seven-year, $100 million contract Tuesday afternoon.
