The Mets are expected to be in attendance a few weeks from now when free agent reliever Joel Hanrahan holds a showcase for interested teams. Compared to his predecessor, Omar Minaya, current Mets GM Sandy Alderson has been a miracle worker. He's turned expensive soon-to-be free agents into valuable, controllable prospects and has even spent a little bit of money this winter, on (largely) sensible deals.

After a week in which the Mets traded two of their top run-producers, Marlon Byrd and John Buck, and lost ace Matt Harvey until possibly the 2015 season, Sandy Alderson believed it was necessary to address season-ticket holders.

The general manager sent out an email Thursday night thanking fans for their support and saying "the trade was the right decision as part of our plan moving forward."
