Jays top White Sox in pitching duel

TORONTO - Shaun Marcum matched Mark Buehrle pitch for pitch, and Shannon Stewart drove in the only runs, helping the Toronto Blue Jays beat the White Sox 2-0 on Friday night for Chicago's third consecutive defeat. Marcum (3-2) struck out nine and won for the first time in three starts, lowering his ERA to 2.70. He allowed two hits, both singles by Orlando Cabrera, and walked three.

Yankees 5, Mariners 1

NEW YORK -- Chien-Ming Wang has turned into the New York Yankees' stopper. Wang became the American League's first six-game winner, ending the Yankees' three-game losing streak with a victory against the Seattle Mariners. Wang (6-0) pitched shutout ball into the sixth inning, and Kyle Farnsworth, Joba Chamberlain and Mariano Rivera completed a four-hitter.

Twins 11, Tigers 1

MINNEAPOLIS -- Livan Hernandez baffled Detroit's mighty offense for seven innings, and the Minnesota Twins beat up the Tigers' normally reliable bullpen. Hernandez (4-1) gave up one run and eight hits to bounce back from a horrendous start in Texas, and the Twins scored four runs off Aquilino Lopez in the seventh inning to get some breathing room in their third consecutive victory.

Royals-Indians postponed

CLEVELAND -- Cleveland's scheduled game against the Kansas City Royals on Friday night was postponed by rain. Friday's scheduled starters will pitch today: Royals right-hander Luke Hochevar (1-1) will oppose Cleveland left-hander C.C. Sabathia.
