Yankees manager Joe Girardi said Alex Rodriguez is not an option to replace Derek Jeter at shortstop.

"No, I wouldn't do that," Girardi said after Jeter suffered a fractured left ankle in ALCS Game 1 and was lost for the remainder of the postseason. "It's just been too long."

Rodriguez last played shortstop regularly in 2003, before he was traded to the Yankees and moved to third base.

He appeared in two games at short (an inning each time) in 2004 and three games (a total of six innings) in 2005.
