Father's Day: Bill Clinton, Diddy celebrating with their famous offspring
Dads throughout the U.S. will be celebrated on Father’s Day Sunday, including quite a few famous fathers who hail from the Hudson Valley. Check out these five celebrity fathers and their equally famous offspring:
Bill and Chelsea Clinton: Bill and wife Hillary are Chappaqua residents and daughter Chelsea, an NBC News special correspondent, married in Rhinebeck in 2010. Clinton was recently awarded "Father of the Year” by the nonprofit National Father's Day Council. During his emotional acceptance speech, he called being Chelsea’s dad “the most important job I've ever had.”
Jon Voight and Angelina Jolie: This father/daughter pair might have a strained relationship, but they also have two major things in common. Both have connections to the area: Voight is a Yonkers native, and Jolie spent part of her childhood in Palisades. Both also are Oscar winners, Voight for “Coming Home” in 1979, and Jolie 21 years later for “Girl, Interrupted.”
Carl and Rob Reiner: The Reiners are another powerhouse Hollywood duo, with the elder Reiner raising his three children in New Rochelle. Carl Reiner created the classic TV comedy “The Dick Van Dyke Show,” set in New Rochelle, with the main characters, Rob and Laura Petrie, even living on Bonnie Meadow Road, the same street as the Reiner family. His eldest son, Rob, has had a successful acting and directing career, starring in “All in the Family” and helming hit movies like “When Harry Met Sally.”
Loudon and Rufus Wainwright: This musical father-and-son duo have strong ties to the Hudson Valley, so much so that they both composed songs about the area. Loudon Wainwright III grew up in Westchester, and wrote a biographical tune about his family’s wealthy suburban lifestyle called "Westchester County." Rufus was born in Rhinebeck and attended Millbrook School as a teenager, and his experience at the prep school led him to pen the song “Millbrook.”
Sean “Diddy” Combs and Justin Combs: Diddy was raised in Mount Vernon, and his 19-year-old son, Justin, attended Iona Prep in New Rochelle. In 2012, the younger Combs made headlines when he was awarded a four-year football scholarship from UCLA.
