Martha Stewart, Joan Rivers earn Hudson Valley Tweets of the Week
It's the first edition of the Hudson Valley Tweets of the Week to honor excellence in Vine, the fledgling social network that's similar to Instagram but features 6-second videos in lieu of photographs. But is that honoree Martha Stewart, Joan Rivers, Richard Blais or Peter Gallagher?
Because the following embedded tweets, links, photos and videos involve HTML coding, this feature is best viewed with a Web browser. If you missed previous installments of the Hudson Valley Tweets of the Week, click here.
At No. 4 this week is former Larchmont resident Joan Rivers, who brought her stand-up comedy to Purchase College on Sunday.
My adorable student orchestra at SUNY Purchase. Straight guys looking great in my bling!!! twitter.com/Joan_Rivers/st…— Joan Rivers (@Joan_Rivers) April 8, 2013
If that's how she feels about orchestra musicians she's just met, imagine her takes on high-profile celebrities with Hudson Valley connections! Wait, you don't have to imagine, because Newsday Westchester's got that covered. We're convenient that way.
At No. 3 is Peter Gallagher, who graduated from Byram Hills High School in Armonk. Upon hearing that former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher had died, he posted this behind-the-scenes photo of him with Thatcher, Jack Lemmon and Kevin Spacey in a mid-'80s staging of "Long Day's Journey into Night."
RIP PM Thatcher..from happier days - onstage in London after Long Day's Journey with Lemmon, Spacey and me. Godspeed! twitter.com/petergallagher…— Peter Gallagher (@petergallagher) April 8, 2013
That's quite a cast, but I still wouldn't have been surprised if the Iron Lady offered a few notes about Lemmon's focus or Spacey's motivation.
This week's runner-up for Tweet of the Week belongs to Bedford resident Martha Stewart, a lifestyle guru who once worked as a model for Chanel. On a night when the sixth season of "Mad Men" premiered, Stewart revealed a first-person account that sounds like a casting call at the fictional Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce.
I modelled when real MadMen ruled the advertising world in nyc— Martha Stewart (@MarthaStewart) April 7, 2013
On one "go-see" a roomful of men asked us girls to wear bikinis. I asked if we were wearing bathing suits in the ad. No was the answer— Martha Stewart (@MarthaStewart) April 7, 2013
This doesn't seem unfathomable. I can almost hear the fictional Harry Crane and Pete Campbell's crude remarks beside a cringing Stewart. Stewart's probably happier it's 2013, when she can live like "Mad Men" in the Hudson Valley without enduring the same level of inappropriateness.
This week's top tweet belongs to Richard Blais, the "Top Chef All Stars" winner who graduated from Hyde Park's Culinary Institute of America. To spoof "The Blair Witch Project," he's making good use of Vine.

No matter how scared he looks here, I think he'd be even more frightened to serve undercooked scallops to Tom Colicchio.
