'The Big Wedding,' with Susan Sarandon
Hudson Valley homeowners Susan Sarandon and Robert De Niro are among the actors inviting you to “The Big Wedding,” in theaters Friday.
The movie is about a long-divorced couple, played by De Niro and Diane Keaton, who pretend they're still married to appease an important visitor. Adding to the hijinks: Sarandon’s and De Niro’s characters are dating. If the script's any good, hilarity ensues.
“The Big Wedding” also stars Amanda Seyfried, Topher Grace and Robin Williams.
Sarandon has called Pound Ridge home, and De Niro owns property in Gardiner. As actors, they've got 12 Acadamy Award nominations and three wins between them: she's won one for her performance in 1995's "Dead Man Walking," and he's got a couple for his on-screen contributions to 1974's "The Godfather: Part II" and 1980's "Raging Bull."
But does that kind of recognition yield a quality movie? "Love Actually" is a romantic comedy with an all-star cast that has resonated with fans and many critics since its 2003 release, while more recent cracks at the same formula — like 2010's "Valentine's Day" — had many viewers saying, "It's not me, it's you."
