Joe Torrre has moved up his timetable for telling the Dodgers his intentions beyond this season. The former Yankee manager, in the third and final year of his contract, spoke on the matter before Sunday night's loss to the Yankees.

"I don't want to wait until after the season in case they want to look at somebody else," Torre was quoted.  "That's why I want to do it before the end of the season. I don't want them to think I might be coming back. Then if I decide not to they would be caught without a plan." Torre expects to make a decision by September. Don Mattingly is supposedly waiting in the wings.

The Dodgers are on a 3-8 slide.
