Knoblauch subpoenaed by House committee

A congressional committee investigating steroids in baseball subpoenaed former Yankee Chuck Knoblauch yesterday.

The House Oversight and Government Reform Committee issued the subpoena after Knoblauch failed to respond to an invitation asking him to give a deposition. The committee wants to speak with Knoblauch, Roger Clemens, Andy Pettitte, Brian McNamee (Clemens' and Pettitte's former trainer) and Kirk Radomski (former Mets clubhouse attendant) each individually before the Feb. 13 hearing at which all five have been asked to appear.

Committee chairman Henry Waxman (D-Calif.) and ranking member Tom Davis (R-Va.) said in a statement about the subpoena: "The committee has taken this step because Mr. Knoblauch failed to respond to the invitation to participate voluntarily in a deposition or transcribed interview and the Feb. 13 hearing."

McNamee claimed in last month's Mitchell Report that he had injected Knoblauch with human growth hormone. Pettitte acknowledged McNamee's allegations about him, while Clemens has fiercely denied all allegations of the use of performance-enhancing drugs.
