Mets' Jay Horwitz earns 10,000 Twitter followers for charity
Mets vice president of media relations Jay Horwitz joined Twitter today.
His first tweet was as mundane as the next first tweet: "Joined the twitter world. My dog Tiki and cats Leo, Stan and Lilly can't wait 34 years from Doug Flynn to David Wright. I am old."
Normally, this wouldn't be such big news, but at about 3 p.m. Friday the Mets' official Twitter account tweeted, "Jeff Wilpon challenged @Jay_HorwitzPR to get to 10K followers by midnight. If successful he'll make a donation to a charity of Jay's chioce."
Mets fans, current and former players, sports media members and more helped Horwitz reach his goal. Just before 11:30 p.m. he tweeted, "We did it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" along with a photo of his Twitter page. As of 11:35 p.m., he had 10,154 followers.
Horwitz wrapped up his night of tweeting by saying he'd collect on the bet Monday.
