Wright returns to Grapefruit League action
PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. -- With the sting of the Johan Santana news still hovering over the clubhouse, the Mets shared one hit of encouraging news. Mets captain David Wright is in the starting lineup against the Cardinals, batting third and playing third base. It will be his first Grapefruit League game since being sidelined by a strained left intercostal muscle at the World Baseball Classic.
Wright had already been on track to begin the season on time with the Mets, though his inclusion in the lineup is the strongest signal yet that he will be ready to play in Monday's season opener against the Padres. Second baseman Daniel Murphy is also in the lineup for the second consecutive day. He made his Grapefruit League debut on Thursday after missing virtually all of spring training with a strained right intercostal.
