The Mets once again are considering whether to make pitcher-friendly Citi Field a kinder, happier, and cozier place for hitters.
Mets general manager Sandy Alderson told reporters on Monday that the club is discussing moving in the fences at the six-year-old ballpark, just as they did following the 2011 season.
Talks have been ongoing for some time, according to a team insider. The changes...Read more »
CINCINNATI -- Barring an injury, the Mets likely have finished their September call-ups, team officials said on Sunday. That means top pitching prospect Noah Syndergaard will have to wait until next year to make his big league debut.
The Mets announced the promotions of veteran outfielder Bobby Abreu and reliever Gonzalez Germen, moves that brought the Mets’ 40-man roster to its capacity....Read more »
Binghamton had its best starter on the mound, and Steven Matz turned in a sturdy if unspectacular performance. The Mets’ offense, which was shut out on Thursday, fought back to tie the score in the sixth inning and, after falling behind again later, brought the tying run to the plate twice in the ninth.
But it wasn’t enough.
Binghamton fell, 6-3, to the Portland Sea Dogs in Game 3 of...Read more »
CINCINNATI -- We’ll have a few more details in a bit, but here’s a quick rundown of what’s coming next for Matt Harvey, who is about to wrap up his rehab from Tommy John surgery.

Reno’s team nickname is the “Aces”. If any of their other pitchers perform like Andrew Chafin did Thursday night, the moniker is well deserved.
Chafin allowed just four hits, all singles, and didn’t walk a batter during nine shutout innings as Diamondbacks affiliate Reno downed Las Vegas, 6-0, in Game 2 of the Pacific Coast League semifinals. The best-of-five series is now tied at 1-1.

If momentum really is only as good as the next day's starting pitcher, the Binghamton Mets never had a chance with Greg Peavey on the mound.
Any momentum the Mets’ had following Wednesday’s walk-off win was washed away as an ineffective Peavey lasted a mere six outs during Portland’s 7-0 thrashing of Binghamton in Game 2 of the Eastern League Eastern Division series.
The best-of-five...Read more »
MIAMI -- Mets hitting coach Lamar Johnson prefers to leave his players’ swings alone. That’s especially true in the middle of the season, when large-scale adjustments can be difficult to make.
The offseason, however, is a different matter. And that's particularly relevant to struggling Mets slugger Curtis Granderson, who Johnson said may be due for some offseason changes that go beyond just...Read more »
Wednesday was the first day of the playoffs for the three Mets minor league affiliates who made the postseason. Here’s a look at how they fared in Game 1:
TRIPLE-A – Las Vegas 51s vs. Reno Aces (Diamondbacks)
The skinny: L.J. Mazzilli singled with one out in the bottom of the eighth to score Cory Vaughn with the go-ahead run, and Gonzalez Germen pitched a perfect ninth to save the 5-4...Read more »
MIAMI -- This week, I asked Mets centerfielder Juan Lagares about his favorite defensive plays of the season. At first, he sounded like a parent who was put on the spot, asked to choose between children.
“Every time I do something good, I like them all,” Lagares said.
This season, he’s done a lot of good. By one advanced metric, Lagares has 30 defensive runs saved, the most of any centerfielder...Read more »
