The only way to judge CC Sabathia (5-3, 4.14) on tonight’s start against Baltimore is if he pitches poorly. He’s 12-1 in his career against the Orioles and has won all three starts this season. He owns them, as they say in baseball parlance, but so does nearly everyone else, so he gets no big credit for beating them.

In last week's win at Yankee Stadium. Sabathia gave up home runs to Adam Jones and Luke Scott. Otherwise, he allowed just a hit. The net result was just satisfactory. And you don’t make the All-Star team feasting on Baltimore. It would not be pushing it to say Sabathia has been the Yankees’ fifth starter of late in terms of overall effectiveness.

I'd rank them this way: Pettitte, Hughes, Burnett, Vazquez, and Sabathia. That's after Sabathia was the heavy No. 1 going into the season.

The Yankees are rumored to be looking at another starter, so they are not necessarily set with this rotation. Of course, Sabathia will remain a big part of it.
