1. "THE HOUSE THAT RUTH BUILT." What a great and apt nickname for the first mammoth baseball "stadium" (as opposed to a ballpark), built to fit the scale of a towering figure in the history of American sports. Babe Ruth's legacy still will be a huge part of the new Yankee Stadium, but it can't be called his own personal digs.
2. THE VOICE. Bob Sheppard made Yankee Stadium special and unforgettable with the way his crystal-clear diction reached every corner since 1951. His son Chris said Bob's goal is to recover from an illness and open the new Yankee Stadium.
3. NARROW CORRIDORS. It just feels too darned crowded now. Then again, there is something about antiquarian touches that make you feel as if you're walking into history.
4. "THE GREATEST GAME EVER PLAYED." There won't be a direct link to the 1958 NFL championship contest between the Colts and Giants, which is said to have been the one that "made" the NFL.
5. THE SPOT. Sure, there have been changes, but there is something about coming to The Stadium knowing that Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Joe DiMaggio, Whitey Ford, Mickey Mantle, Reggie Jackson, Thurman Munson, Don Mattingly, Derek Jeter, Mariano Rivera and Alex Rodriguez all played on the same ground.
