John Maine apparently isn't the only New York pitcher with an appointment to see Dr. James Andrews. Chien-Ming Wang, on the disabled list since July 5 with a right shoulder strain, said Friday night that the plan is for him to see the noted orthopedic surgeon in Birmingham, Ala., "maybe Monday."

Mets medical director Dr. David Altchek examined Wang on Wednesday and the Yankees sent the results to Andrews. Joe Girardi said before the game that the Yankees had not yet seen Andrews' evaluation.

Wang, who went on the DL in late April with adductor weakness, threw Monday but cut the session short when he felt tenderness in his right biceps. He said he is feeling pain in the shoulder and biceps.

Wang said he has not thrown since Monday and is not doing much more than running and getting treatment. "Obviously, I want to be on the field with my teammates,'' he said, "but right now, I can't do anything."

Wang's year, dating to June 15, 2008, when he suffered a foot injury in Houston while running the bases, couldn't have been much worse professionally. He was horrible early this season before landing on the disabled list the first time, and now he's back on the DL.

Joba and his innings

As was the case Thursday, Girardi wouldn't say what Joba Chamberlain's innings limitations are, but he said he might cut short an outing should the situation present itself. A blowout, for example. Said Girardi, "You have to look at your bullpen and at what you have in your bullpen that night."

Downs on radar

The Toronto Globe and Mail reported that the Yankees had scouts in Toronto Friday night to watch Blue Jays lefthanded reliever Scott Downs.
