Jake Arrieta, who is making his major-league debut today against the Yankees, was picked in the fifth round of the 2007 amateur draft out of Texas Christian University. He has risen quickly through the Orioles farm system, as college pitchers tend to do. This year at Triple-A Norfolk he was 6-2 with a 1.85 ERA. He allowed only 48 hits in 73 innings, including just three home runs, while holding the opposition to a .189 average.

The Yankees over the years have struggled against pitchers they've never seen before, so it wouldn't be too surprising to see that happen again. But then again this is the Orioles, whom the Yankees have a history of crushing night in and night out. We'll see which trend wins out.
