MATT DIAZ, left fielder/designated hitter
Career (10 seasons): .291 avg., .339 OBP, 45 HR, 225 RBIs
2012: .222 avg., .280 OBP, 2 HR, 13 RBIs
Contract: One year, $1.2 million (if he makes the club)
The Yankees are certainly counting on a bounce-back season from Diaz, but he was brought to the Bronx to do one thing: hit left-handed pitchers. Diaz, who will be 35 years old for the 2013 season, is a career .324 hitter with an .863 on-base plus slugging percentage against southpaws. But he hit just .269 with a .740 OPS against lefties last season. It's a classic low-risk, high-reward move. |(Credit: AP)
