Mr. Gavin is caught up in the A-Rod hype and cannot contain his excitement, so Adam Ronis is taking over...

YANKEES LOSE, 8-2

Bottom 9: Jeter grounds out to second for out No. 1. That's 14 grounders for Romero. Swisher flies to center as Romero is at 114 pitches. Teixeira grounds out to Escobar to end the game. Romero was terrific. He throws a two-hitter and retired the final 12 batters. He allows just three baserunners and both runs came in the first inning.

Top 9: Sergio Mitre relieves Wood. Encarnacion doubles over the head of Kearns. Lewis grounds out to second, but moves Encarnacion to third. Escobar grounds out to third and Encarnacion stays put. Bautista hits his major-league leading 33rd homer, a two-run shot. Take note A-Rod. Wells grounds out to A-Rod ending the inning.

Blue Jays 8, Yankees 2

Bottom 8: Overbay in at first for defense. Kearns grounds out to start the inning. Posada hits for Cervelli and he grounds out to second. Gardner grounds out to Romero. Three grounders in the inning as Romero has been extremely impressive.

Blue Jays 6, Yankees 2

RAYS UPDATE: B.J. Upton hits a three-run homer and the Rays lead 6-3 in the bottom of the seventh.

Top 8: Wells continues to hurt the Yankees with a solo homer to leftfield. Lind grounds out to second. Moseley is out of the game. Kerry Wood now pitching. Hill greets him with a two-run homer to left. Buck strikes out and so does Snider.

RAYS UPDATE: Drew Butera hit a solo homer to tie the score at 3 for the Twins as the game heads to the bottom of the seventh.

Bottom 7: A-Rod leads it off and he flies to center. It is now 46 at-bats without a homer. Will he finish his career at 599? Will Juan Pierre, who homered for the first time this season today, hit No. 2 before A-Rod gets 600? Cano grounds out for the second out. That's three pitches and Romero is at 81 for the game. Thames, the last Yankee to reach base on a weak infield single in the fifth, who strikes out. Romero is rolling.

Blue Jays 4, Yankees 2

Top 7: Lewis fouls out to A-Rod. Escobar grounds out to Moseley, who is at least working deep into the game and saving the bullpen. Boone Logan is warming up. Bautista strikes out to end the inning. Here comes A-Rod!!!

RAYS UPDATE: The Rays lead the Twins after five innings, 3-2.

Bottom 6: Jeter grounds out. Romero really inducing grounders tonight. Swisher flies to deep center as Wells tracks it down. Teixeira grounds out to Swisher. Romero looking really good. A-Rod will lead off the seventh with another crack at No. 600.

Blue Jays 4, Yankees 2

RAYS UPDATE: Jeff Niemann left the bases loaded in the top of the fifth. Rays lead the Twins, 3-2.

Top 6: Lind grounds out to begin the inning. Hill checks his swing and gets a single to rightfield. He has been very unlucky this season, so he deserves it. Buck with another good stroke smokes a line drive to left right at Kearns. Snider with a base hit to left. I really think Snider has a strong finish. Encarnacion grounds to A-Rod to end the threat.

Bottom 5: And the Yankees get a baserunner!!! Thames gets an infield single. Kearns flies to center for the first out. Cervelli strikes out on a check swing. Gardner, who said he will steal more bases the rest of the way, but he needs to get on base first. He lines out to short to end it. Another strong inning by Romero.

RAYS UPDATE: The Rays lead the Twins 3-2 after four.

Top 5: Lewis lines out to Moseley to begin the inning. Escobar grounds out to A-Rod, who still knows how to use the glove at least.  Bautista walks with two outs and Cervelli attempts to pick off Bautista at first and the throw goes all the way to the rightfield corner sending Bautista to third. It doesn't matter as Wells flies to center.

RAYS UPDATE: The Rays lead the Twins in the bottom of the fourth, 3-2 in Tampa.

Bottom 4: Teixeira strikes out to lead off. Here comes A-Rod. A diving catch by Hill robs A-Rod, who got jammed on the pitch. The homerless drought extends to 45. Cano lines out to Hill, who makes a leaping catch. Romero is in a groove with another 1-2-3 inning. He has retired 11 straight.

Blue Jays 4, Yankees 2

Top 4: Wells leads off with a single to center, but gets erased when Lind grounds into a 5-4-3 double play. Hill gets hit by a pitch on the first pitch. Buck strikes again with a double into the leftfield corner. Hill scored as Jeter made an awful relay throw. It might have been a close play ay the plate. On the next pitch, Snider hits a two-run home run to right-center. Snider was starting to come around before a wrist injury. He just returned from the disabled list and had two doubles last night. I think the Blue Jays needs to play him. Right now, it looks like Lewis, Encarnacion, and Snider are rotating fort two spots, although Lind was given off last night and tonight Overbay is out with Lind at first. It's possible Lind gets more time at first. Encarnacion strikes out to end the inning.

Blue Jays 4, Yankees 2

Bottom 3: Gardner just gets thrown out by Escobar on a close play at first base to start it off. Jeter grounds out to Hill. That's five consecutive ground ball outs for Romero. The streak ends but the out is recorded on a fly ball to center from Swisher.

Yankees 2, Blue Jays 1

Top 3: Encarnacion flied out to center and Lewis grounded out to second. escobar, who has renewed vigor since coming to the Blue Jays from the Braves, singled with two outs. Batista fouls out to Teixeira to end it.

Yankees 2, Blue Jays 1

Bottom 2: Thames grounds out to short. Kearns works the count full before grounding out to Hill. Cervelli grounds out and Romero bounces back with a 1-2-3 inning.

Yankees 2, Blue Jays 1

Top 2: Are the Blue Jays going clubbing tonight? Oh wait, a 1p.m. start tomorrow. Wells grounds out on the first pitch. Lind drops a double just inside the leftfield line. Hill grounds out to A-Rod. At least he's contributing on defense. Buck goes opposite field to right and scores Lind with a two-out hit. Snider grounds out to first on the first pitch to end it.

Yankees 2, Blue Jays 1

Bottom 1: We already see the different approaches of these teams. Jeter works the count to 3-and-1 and walks. Swisher lines out to short for out No. 1. Teixeira hits a two-run homer to leftfield. Was there ever any doubt he would heat up? How did that look from the on deck circle A-Rod? A-Rod strikes out swinging. The slump is now 9-for-44.  Cano grounds out to second to end it.

Yankees 2, Blue Jays 0

Top 1: The Blue Jays are very aggressive. They come out hacking and on the first pitch, Fred Lewis grounds out to short. On the third pitch by Moseley, Escobar grounds out to Jeter. So much for getting into the opposition's bullpen. Jose Bautista, who leads the majors with 32 home runs, takes the first pitch and the second pitch for a ball. A new approach by the Jays. Well, he grounds out on the next pitch to A-Rod for an easy 1-2-3 inning. That's six pitches.
