The Knicks picked up the fourth-year option on Iman Shumpert’s deal. The shooting guard is now under contract through the 2014-15 season.

Shumpert is on his rookie deal, so exercising the $2.6 million option for next season was a formality. It just had to be done by Halloween.

The Knicks can submit a qualifying offer after Shumpert’s fourth season, which would make him a restricted free agent.

Shumpert, 6-foot-5 guard, holds career averages of 8.3 points, 3.1 rebounds and 2.3 assists over 26.0 minutes in 104 games (80 starts) with the Knicks. He started all 45 games he played last season, and averaged 6.8 points, 3.0 rebounds and 1.7 assists over 22.1 minutes.

Shumpert is expected to start in the Knicks' regular-season opener Wednesday. But he missed part of practice today because he was "sore" and "a little beat up," according to coach Mike Woodson.
