Knicks' Walsh has 2010 on his mind, not Iverson

Allen Iverson likely won't be "the Answer" for the Knicks this season, but Donnie Walsh did indicate that he would look to make a roster move if his team's poor start continues. But, of course, he will not do anything that "goes in the opposite direction" of the 2010 plan.
"I'm not going to throw away our ability to get better in the future," he said.
But if it involved acquiring an expiring-contract player who could make a difference, Walsh said he would consider it. "Depends who it is," he said.
With that said, Iverson - if or when Memphis considers soliciting offers after his trade eligibility date of Dec. 15 - can be ruled out, with his excess baggage and a fading game. But it is possible the Knicks - who are owned by Cablevision, which also owns Newsday - would strongly consider discussing Tracy McGrady, who reportedly expects to return from his knee injury next week. McGrady is in the final year of his contract at $23.2 million and could be a more effective short-term fit as a point forward. If, of course, the knee is finally 100 percent.
The Rockets have fared quite well without their high-maintenance star and there have been indications that the team would consider trading him. McGrady reportedly put in an extensive offseason of work to be ready to play this season as he is in the market for another payday next summer.
