Carmelo Anthony Q&A
Newsday's Anthony Rieber (and another reporter who asked a lot of Chris Paul questions) had a sit-down with Carmelo Anthony on Thursday in Greenwich Village. Anthony (Carmelo, not Rieber) was there to talk about his new sneaker, the Jordan Melo M8. Here are some questions and answers about basketball stuff:
On the reported all-star world tour Carmelo will be part of if the lockout doesn't end:
"We've been talking, going back and forth, trying to figure this whole thing out. We've been waiting, trying to see what the lockout's going to be. I think now guys just want to play ball. Myself, LeBron, Kobe, D-Wade, Dwight, Derrick Rose, CP."
"It changed like three different times. It went from the Bahamas to this place to that place."
"Right now, I think it's just getting a couple more guys to commit to it. Get the paperwork done. Once the paperwork's done and everybody signed on, I guess we'll be doing the world tour."
"Things seem to be developing. I don't know how fast, though."
"From what I'm hearing, things are moving fairly slow. But at the same time I'm hearing that it's making some progress in some areas. Anything is better than going backwards."
On an all-star lockout game in NYC area, probably at the Izod Center in New Jersey?
"I am working on a game here in New York City. Maybe by the end of next week I'll have some more details."
"This would be one of the biggest games. And it's New York. So I don't think we can hold that game in a 4,000-, 5,000-seat arena. Maybe we might have to go over to Jersey."
"Either right before Thanksgiving or right after."
On Chris Paul:
"This summer more than any was a time for us -- not just with Chris, but with LeBron and D-Wade -- us four to really get together, spend some time together, hang out, work out together."
Talk about Paul coming to NY?
"We don't even talk about that, to be honest with you. I'm not the one to blow smoke up your ---. I'll tell you how it is. If I was talking to Chris about coming to New York, I'd tell you. That right there is just a real sensitive situation for him and just for everybody in general, so we just stay away from that. We just talk about other things."
"If it works out and he comes here or they allow him to come here, you'll see a smile from ear to ear. But I think not just me, anybody -- if he went somewhere else -- would feel the same way."
