Ama’re Stoudemire laughed and said, “Really?” when he was told Mike D’Antoni said Stoudemire threw all of his former coaches under the bus when he said this was the first time in his career he’s being taught defense.
“It was taken out of context,” Stoudemire said. “It wasn’t really to be exaggerated as much as it was - just from the simple fact Coach Woodson is a defensive coach. He’s...

Carmelo Anthony and Kobe Bryant were the brightest stars Christmas afternoon in Los Angeles, but it was the two guys that were missing the last time the Knicks and Lakers played who made a difference.
Steve Nash’s brilliance at point guard and Pau Gasol’s big plays late helped lift the Lakers over the Knicks, 100-94.
You knew once Nash came back from his left injury he would have an...

The change in the Knicks has been dramatic since Mike Woodson replaced Mike D’Antoni.
With D’Antoni back at the Garden with the struggling Lakers tonight, Woodson was asked this morning to explain why the Knicks’ play is so different. After thinking about it, trying to find what he wanted to say, Woodson responded:
“Maybe I scared them into playing. I don’t know. I had some things that...

New Lakers coach Mike D’Antoni said in a story posted on Wednesday by ESPNLA.com that he regrets having left Steve Nash and the Phoenix Suns for the Knicks in 2008.
“I shouldn’t have gone to New York,” D’Antoni said. “I should have stuck in there and battled. You don’t get to coach somebody like [Nash] too many times. It’s pretty sacred and you need to take care of it. I didn’t.”
D’Antoni...

GREENBURGH, N.Y. -- Sometimes traveling is not a bad thing in basketball. And, now that Mike D’Antoni has journeyed to the other coast to coach the Los Angeles Lakers, a couple of his former associates with the Knicks offered their thoughts after practice Monday:
Head coach Mike Woodson:
“Very excited for him. I really am. I think he’s a guy that’s meant to be a coach. He’s done great...

The Knicks’ two December games with the Lakers have become a little more interesting.
The Lakers hired former Knicks coach Mike D’Antoni as Mike Brown’s replacement. Phil Jackson was considered the favorite to return to coach the Lakers for a third time, but a deal couldn’t be reached. So D’Antoni was given the job.
Multiple reports indicated D’Antoni got a three-year, $12 million contract...

The Knicks held their annual Media Day this morning and there was some things that had to be discussed beside the usual ‘what are the expectations for this team?’
Of course, the Knicks believe they’ve assembled a team that can compete for a championship. Mike Woodson said it. (Mike D’Antoni said it last season and that didn’t work out so well).
But the decision to not match the Rockets’...

Carmelo Anthony spoke at an event to promote Jeep's partnership with USA Basketball at Flatiron Plaza yesterday.
Here’s our story from that – with great help from my colleague Chris Mascaro - on Nuggets coach George Karl saying Melo needs to be more committed to things other than offense, Mike Woodson saying Anthony is committed and Anthony not knowing what to say.
Here’s some more Anthony,...

The Knicks aren’t practicing today and it’s not just because they’ve won eight-of-nine games since Mike Woodson became interim coach.
Woodson gave them their second day off this week to keep them physically fresh and able to play. It’s a good move since the Knicks are so banged up.
They’re already without Amar’e Stoudemre (back), Jeremy Lin (knee), Jared Jeffries (knee) and Bill Walker...

Jeremy Lin still is big in Toronto, but apparently not as big.
Last time the Knicks played here, he was on the front page of newspapers, a video board outside the Air Canada Centre and there was a morning press conference where some Asian outlets presented him with gifts.
This morning, he wasn’t on front of newspapers or on the video board, and he spoke at his locker at the same time...
