Mike Woodson continues to play defense better than his players.

Woodson defended Tyson Chandler and Carmelo Anthony, who have been openly critical about the team. Woodson defended his defensive scheme. And during his weekly spot with 98.7 FM ESPN Woodson said he’s not going to let the media tear the Knicks apart.

Actually the Knicks are doing a good job of that by themselves.

Mike Woodson said if J.R. Smith isn’t with the program he should get used to sitting at the end of the Knicks bench.

“Put it this way, he’s going to have to be with it if he’s going to want to be a part of it,” Woodson said after Thursday morning’s shootaround. “As a coach, it’s my job to make sure that that happens.

ORLANDO – The Knicks have come up small when they’ve gone big this year, but that isn’t stopping Mike Woodson from starting the frontcourt of Carmelo Anthony, Andrea Bargnani and Tyson Chandler.

They are 0-4 this season with that starting frontline. Yet Woodson said this morning that he would start that lineup Monday against the Magic.

Raymond Felton to return for Knicks

Raymond Felton missed the last four games with a pinched nerve in his hip, but he will return tonight to face Chris Paul and the Clippers.

The Knicks, losers of six straight, could use all the help they can get. But Felton wasn’t playing well defensively when he was healthy, and Paul isn’t the best guy to face when you’re coming off an injury like that.

“Chris Paul is not a good matchup...

Mike Woodson is planning to change his starting lineup tomorrow night against the Pistons.

The Pistons start a Josh Smith, Greg Monroe and Andre Drummond frontline so Woodson said he “might match to their bigness.”

It’s a safe bet that Carmelo Anthony, Andrea Bargnani and Kenyon Martin will start up front with Raymond Felton and either J.R. Smith or Iman Shumpert.
