An annual New Rochelle tradition will have to take a pass this year due to ongoing recovery from Hurricane Sandy.

Peter Parente, president of the United Veterans of New Rochelle, says the city's Memorial Day parade will be canceled in 2013. Marchers usually make their way to Hudson Park, but severe damage from the storm has made it unusable.

Ceremonies will still be held at Glen Island Park, but Parente says it is too far out of the way for the parade route.

Some residents say they're upset and confused by the decision, wondering why the entire parade needs to be nixed.

News 12 reached out to city officials for comment, but has yet to receive a response.
