Temple Hill Academy students help Make-A-Wish Foundation
Students from Temple Hill Academy in Windsor recently submitted more than 600 letters to Macy's Believe Campaign.
The letter-writing campaign raises funds for the Make-A-Wish Foundation and for every letter received, Macy's donates $1, according to a Newburgh Enlarged City School District news release Wednesday.
English as a Second Language (ESL) teacher Josephine Giglia-Byrne organized and oversaw the project. In the past three years, Temple Hill Academy students have been responsible for more than $2,000 being donated to Make-A-Wish.
"We are very proud of our students and teachers. Our students learned that through collaboration everyone's individual efforts can make a big difference," explained Giglia-Byrne.
Students from kindergarten through sixth grade participated. The letters included wishes for help for the victims of Hurricane Sandy, jobs for the unemployed, healing from illnesses, shelter for the homeless, and hope for a peaceful world.
On Dec. 14, National Believe Day, students wore red and white to show their support for the campaign. Representatives from Temple Hill Academy delivered the letters to a local Macy's store.
Temple Hill Academy is a K-8 school at 525 Union Ave. in New Windsor.
