The Knicks made it official, re-signing power forward Kenyon Martin today.

The hard-playing forward signed a one-year deal for the veterans’ minimum of roughly $1.4 million.

With Martin in the fold, the Knicks have 12 players under contract and have re-signed three of their own free agents. They also brought back J.R. Smith and Pablo Prigioni.

Martin averaged 7.2 points and 5.3 rebounds in 18 games with the Knicks last season. He was signed to his first 10-day contract on Feb. 23, his second on March 5 and then for the remainder of the season on March 15.

The 35-year-old Martin played a key role in the Knicks’ 13-game winning streak from March 18-April 9. He started nine of those games.

“Kenyon did a fantastic job for us once he signed in February,” Knicks executive vice president and general manager Glen Grunwald said. “He strengthened our frontline going into an important stretch of the season with some very impressive performances. We are happy to have him back.

Martin, the No. 1 pick in the 2000 NBA Draft, gives the Knicks’ toughness and defense at power forward and center and gives them a strong bench. The second unit could consist of Prigioni, Smith, Amar’e Stoudemire, Andrea Bargnani, Martin and rookie guard Tim Hardaway, Jr

The Knicks still have three roster spots to fill. They would like to add a third point guard for insurance and perhaps another big man. They only have minimum salaries to offer free agents.
