GREENBURGH, N.Y. - J.R. Smith wanted to start this season, but became the best sixth man in the NBA.
Smith will be named the Sixth Man of the Year for his strong season off the bench. The NBA will present him with the award this afternoon at the Knicks practice facility.
Smith averaged career-highs of 18.1 points and 5.3 rebounds in 80 games, all as a reserve. He scored at least 20 points...Read more »
Rasheed Wallace’s playing career is official over, for good this time.
The Knicks announced today that Wallace has retired. He tried to return from a foot injury that kept him out for four month. But after he aggravated it in Monday’s loss in Charlotte Wallace has decided to call it a career.
“Rasheed has given this team everything he had,” Mike Woodson said in a statement. “He is a...Read more »
The Knicks probably won’t have Tyson Chandler tonight when they try to clinch their first Atlantic Division title since 1994.
Chandler is listed as doubtful with a bulging disc in his neck. But Mike Woodson said Chandler is “sore” and “needed rest today.”
“He’s a little beat up,” Woodson said.
Chandler’s injury seems like something that could linger and is definitely a cause for...Read more »
TORONTO – Iman Shumpert went from being scared to feeling relieved.
When he heard the pop in his surgically repaired left knee Wednesday against the Magic, he started thinking bad things.
“That was the first time I was actually scared,” said Shumpert, who tore his left ACL in last year's playoffs. Other times it hadn’t felt as strong, but that was the first time I got scared. I thought...Read more »
Tyson Chandler was back to his old self today, talking and laughing with the media.
It’s probably a sign that he’s feeling better. It’s unlikely he will play tomorrow against the Clippers – Carmelo Anthony either - but Chandler is feeling better.
“I know I’ll be back in the next couple of games,” he said.
In Portland Thursday, Chandler initially refused to speak to reporters, but...Read more »
AUBURN HILLS, Mich. – Mike Woodson said the MRI on Carmelo Anthony’s injured right knee showed he has “some fluid build-up” and that’s what’s causing the stiffness.
Anthony wasn’t at the Knicks’ morning shootaround and is out for Thursday's game against the Pistons.
“Rest will probably be the best thing for him,” Woodson said. “He’s got to make that commitment. If he wants to sit down...Read more »
Mike Woodson said Carmelo Anthony asked out of last night’s game before he fell and aggravated his right knee. Woodson said he was too “stubborn” to listen.
“I should have,” Woodson said on ESPN NY 98.7 FM this afternoon. “But stubborn coach, I just didn’t. We’re down 22, I’m going to leave one of my best players in the game. Maybe I should have taken him out before he actually stumbled and...Read more »
Mike Woodson may change the starting lineup tonight based on an injury.
Carmelo Anthony wasn’t at shootaround today due to a stomach virus, but Woodson said, “I’m pretty positive he’s going to play.”
It's backup point guard Pablo Prigioni, who is a game-time decision against the Warriors due to back spasms. If he can’t play, Woodson will bring Jason Kidd off the bench and start someone...Read more »
INDIANAPOLIS - Iman Shumpert made some appearances over All-Star Weekend in Houston, and also watched some tape the Knicks gave him to kind of kick-start him after the break.
Shumpert, the subject of trade rumors, hasn’t been himself since returning from a torn left ACL 13 games ago. A big part of that is coming back from the injury itself. But Mike Woodson wanted to remind Shumpert of the...Read more »
INDIANAPOLIS - Mike Woodson reiterated that he doesn’t expect the Knicks to make a trade before Thursday’s deadline and that Iman Shumpert would remain in New York.
“I think we’ll sit tight and try to make this final run with what we have,” Woodson said at Wednesday morning’s shootaround.
Of course, things can change between now and 3 p.m. Thursday.
The Knicks have been rumored...Read more »
