Andray Blatche insists he won't fall in love with threes

MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- Andray Blatche had the touch going in Saturday night's win over the Grizzlies, canning 7 of 10 attempts and pouring in 20 points.

But look deeper into the box score at the three-point column and those numbers look a little funny. That's because Blatche netted a career-high three triples, a case of him really stretching the defense and a Grizzlies' front line that was without...

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The Nets welcomed another member of their walking wounded back last night.

Well, for nearly two whole quarters at least.

After sitting out the past two games with a sprained left ankle, Deron Williams returned to the mix against the Bobcats, only to leave late in the first half when he re-injured himself, forcing him to sit out the second half with another left ankle...

Mason Plumlee making most of minutes

(Credit: AP)

LOS ANGELES -- Mason Plumlee was discussing his best game of a pro career that’s in its infantile stages when he was reminded once again that he’s still a rookie.

“Mase,” Andray Blatche shouted before he exited a nearby doorway in the visitor’s locker room at Staples Center. “Don’t forget the waters and Gatorade.”

Such is the life of Plumlee these days. But he’s far from complaining,...

Nets forward Paul Pierce, center, drives between Sacramento

LOS ANGELES -- Paul Pierce's on court reunion with Doc Rivers is going to have to wait.

The Nets announced Saturday that Pierce is going to sit out the final game of the team's three-game West Coast swing due to a sore left groin, meaning he won't be able to suit up against his old coach Doc Rivers when the Nets take on the Clippers at Staples Center. But Pierce won't be the lone starter sidelined....

PHOENIX -- As if things aren’t bad enough, the Nets might’ve lost their starting point guard for an indefinite period of time.

Deron Williams appeared to badly injure his left ankle roughly midway through the first quarter of Friday night’s matchup with the Suns at U.S. Airways Arena. The Nets said X-rays taken were negative and he's out for the rest of their contest with Phoenix.

In a way, the Nets are eager to take a trek to the West Coast that begins Wednesday, wishful it’ll aid in curing their ills. Although they’ve come up short in each of their three appearances on the road so far, Paul Pierce believes this three-game swing through Sacramento, Phoenix and Los Angeles could be a positive step in expediting the jelling process.

Given they’re a work in progress,...

The Morning After: Hey A.I., Practice was the Nets' Answer

With all apologies to Allen Iverson, whose retirement tour brought him to the Barclays Center last Friday for the Nets’ tilt with the Heat, we’re talking about practice here.

In the aftermath of Sunday’s debacle in Orlando, when a bunch of zombies seemed to be masquerading around in black Brooklyn uniforms, the Nets say they ramped things up a notch or two or three in Monday’s practice. That,...

CLEVELAND -- Kevin Garnett mean-mugged, scrunching his face up into a pretend angry scowl as he tried to explain how his new teammates were anxious for instant results.

The Nets had just lost their season opener to the Cavaliers, falling 98-94 Wednesday night after failing to knock down any clutch baskets late in the fourth quarter with their starting point guard on the bench. Garnett, seated...

CLEVELAND -- They filed into Quicken Loans Arena shortly before 10 a.m., going over their final preparations before getting things tipped off in this rust belt city Wednesday evening.

The new-look Nets were all business, but there’s no denying there’s a sense of excitement and anticipation as they get set to begin a much-hyped 2013-14 campaign.

“It feels good, our first game of the season,...
