MIAMI — They’re expecting more than a few early haymakers.

When the Nets take on the Heat Wednesday night in a nationally-televised matchup, they’re pretty sure they’re going to get Miami’s best effort. Remember, the Nets have already beat the Heat twice this season, upending them in their Nov. 1 home opener in Brooklyn and getting past them again on Super Bowl weekend in January.

Andray Blatche is sure softening the blow of losing Brook Lopez for the season.

In the eight games since returning from a four-game absence for personal reasons, Blatche is averaging 12.9 points and  4.9 rebounds in 19.9 minutes. He’s as self-assured as ever, and it’s written all over his face as he motors downcourt with both arms spread back following a made bucket.

That monstrous,...

LONDON -- Some news notes and quotes from Nets practice at Imperial College on Tuesday:

-- Jason Kidd said Deron Williams, who didn’t make the trip, is “going through his rehab and we’ll see where he’s at when he gets back.” Kidd wouldn’t commit to Williams playing against the Knicks on Monday, saying he’ll take it “day-by-day.” Asked if Williams is frustrated, Kidd said: “He wants to be with...

No need for Deron Williams to dust off his passport.

The Nets announced Sunday that Williams didn’t travel with the team overseas for its matchup with the Hawks at the O2 Arena Thursday, meaning he’ll miss his fifth straight game.

Williams had platelet-rich plasma therapy on both ankles and also received cortisone shots in each ankle last week, all with hopes of getting them healthy...

Looks like the Nets won't have Deron Williams available for at least a few days.

The team on Tuesday announced that Williams received cortisone injections and had platelet-rich plasma treatment on both of his troublesome ankles, ruling him out for Wednesday's game against the Warriors. Williams, who was diagnosed with a sprained left ankle following Monday's MRI, is in a walking boot and is...

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The Nets welcomed another member of their walking wounded back last night.

Well, for nearly two whole quarters at least.

After sitting out the past two games with a sprained left ankle, Deron Williams returned to the mix against the Bobcats, only to leave late in the first half when he re-injured himself, forcing him to sit out the second half with another left ankle...

LOS ANGELES -- Paul Pierce's on court reunion with Doc Rivers is going to have to wait.

The Nets announced Saturday that Pierce is going to sit out the final game of the team's three-game West Coast swing due to a sore left groin, meaning he won't be able to suit up against his old coach Doc Rivers when the Nets take on the Clippers at Staples Center. But Pierce won't be the lone starter sidelined....

In a way, the Nets are eager to take a trek to the West Coast that begins Wednesday, wishful it’ll aid in curing their ills. Although they’ve come up short in each of their three appearances on the road so far, Paul Pierce believes this three-game swing through Sacramento, Phoenix and Los Angeles could be a positive step in expediting the jelling process.

Given they’re a work in progress,...

The Morning After: Hey A.I., Practice was the Nets' Answer

With all apologies to Allen Iverson, whose retirement tour brought him to the Barclays Center last Friday for the Nets’ tilt with the Heat, we’re talking about practice here.

In the aftermath of Sunday’s debacle in Orlando, when a bunch of zombies seemed to be masquerading around in black Brooklyn uniforms, the Nets say they ramped things up a notch or two or three in Monday’s practice. That,...

Coral Gables, Fla. -- Just for kicks, after he'd wrapped up his second full contact practice of the preseason Thursday afternoon, Deron Williams threw down a pair dunks.

First, Williams playfully dunked right-handed and then proceeded to do a reverse, testing his right ankle and doing so knowing the assembled media was in clear view. It may sound like nothing, but those pair of dunks represented...
