Spreading out the Knicks-Nets games should lead to some intense and potentially important late-season meetings, unlike last season, when they played three times in 24 days and were done with each other on Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

Basketball greats Walt Frazier, Nate Archibald and John Starks hit the links on Tuesday at a golf fundraiser to fight cancer hosted by Joe Cairo at Lido Golf Course. They also did some talking. Starks, a former Knicks shooting guard, said that despite the Nets moves this offseason the Knicks are still the team in New York.

Gregg Popovich always has been a big fan of Jason Kidd. He tried to get him to sign with the Spurs in 2003, a short time after San Antonio beat Kidd’s Nets in the Finals.
So when Popovich was asked if he admired the former Knicks' point guard for leaving $6.2 million on the table when he retired, he cracked a joke about Kidd.

Kenyon Martin enjoyed his best years with Jason Kidd on the Nets. Martin was the enforcer and a main defensive presence on the Nets’ back-to-back NBA Finalist teams in 2002 and 2003.

It’s hard not to agree with J.R. Smith’s assessment of the Knicks after they beat New Orleans Sunday.
If the Knicks are supposed to be a championship contender, they shouldn’t come out flat against the Hornets, which is basically what Smith said.

Carmelo Anthony was named the Eastern Conference Player of the Week, but his coach missed out on East Coach of the Month.
Mike Woodson finished behind the Nets' Avery Johnson for the Eastern Conference Coach of the Month for November.
Knowing both men, they would like the award because it means their team is playing well. But they each would rather be the top coach in May and June.
