Local product Tor Hamer tasted defeat for the first time in his pro career as he suffered a split-decision defeat to Pensacola, Florida's Kelvin Price.

The hometown crowd at the Theater at MSG wasn't happy, but it was an easy decision for the judges, who scored the bout 58-55 (Price), 57-56 (Hamer), 58-55 (Price).

Hamer (11-1, 8 KOs) took too many blows from Price, who had a tremendous reach advantage. Hamer's defense, which has always been an issue, really took a beating as he was dropped in the second round.

Hamer landed several solid shots. His jab was working when he threw it and his overhand right landed on several occasions. But Hamer just couldn't put enough combinations together to knock Price off his game. Hamer needs to learn how to put fighters away if he is going to get past the six-round bouts.
