The battle for boxing supremacy in Canada will begin on Saturday night if Canadian boxing sensation Adonis Stevenson can knock off Tavoris Cloud.

Fellow Canadian Jean Pascal is scheduled to fight George Blades in a light heavyweight bout Saturday night and then Lucian Bute, a Canadian by way of Romania, on January 18.

Stevenson (20-1) shook up the boxing world with his first-round knockout of Chad Dawson in June. The message for the rest of the light heavyweight division (and Canada) was simple: Stevenson is ready to take over.

Assuming Pascal (27-2), who was also victorious against Dawson, can beat Blades, the Bute bout looms large.

Stevenson's bout vs. Cloud will be televised live on HBO as part of a double header. Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. will take on Bryan Vera in the other fight.

Stevenson wouldn’t talk about who comes after Cloud, but rest assured everyone will be clamoring to see him step into the ring with Bute or Pascal sometime next year.

Bute (31-1), meanwhile, has just one loss on his record to Carl Froch. And he would be the ideal opponent for Stevenson for both financial and boxing reasons.

Although neither Stevenson nor his promotional team would speak about who his next opponent might be, they did confirm that he won’t be on the under card of Pascal’s fight vs. Bute on January 18.

“It definitely will not happen,” said Yvon Michel, one of Stevenson’s promoter. “[Stevenson] will not be on the January 18 with Paschal.

Assuming the promoters can come to some sort of agreement, Canada could be the place to be for boxing for the next eight to 10 months.
