Chris Algieri returns to the Paramount Theater in his hometown of Huntington on July 20 to take on perhaps his toughest opponent to date, Mike Arnaoutis (24-8-2, 11 KOs).

The former kick boxing champion turned welterweight contender scored a unanimous-decision win over Jose Peralta Alejo at the Paramount last February on NBC’s Fight Night.

Now Algieri (16-0, 7 KOs) will put his unblemished record on the line against a very experience fighter in Arnaoutis who has fought Victor Ortiz, Danny Garcia, Delvin Rodriguez and Demetrius Hopkins. But it’s the type of challenge the Stony Brook graduate is looking forward to.

"Boxing is my passion," said Algieri. "I'm here because I want to fight."

Algieri isn’t the only local fighter looking to put his skill on display on the Star Boxing card. Huntington’s Alan Gotay (5-0, 3 KOs), Hicksville’s Anthony Karperis (4-0-1, 2 KOs) and Golden Glove champion Vincenzo D’Angelo of Glen Cove will also be on the card.

Wendy Tousant of Huntington will participate in the women’s bout.

One local favorite who will be missed is Suffolk County’s Cletus “The Hebrew Hammer” Seldin. Seldin (11-0, 9 KOs) is recovering from right shoulder surgery to repair his rotator cuff and labrum.

Seldin, who had the surgery on April 22, is expected back in the ring in September.
