Cletus Seldin on right track
Trainer Pete Brodsky asked Cletus Seldin for two years of dedication. The boxing guru figured that after 24 months, Seldin would be on his way to a title fight, or on his way to another job.
So far, so good.
In one year as a pro fighter, Seldin, from Shirley, is 7-0 with five knockouts. He looks to add to that record this Saturday night when he meets San Juan Puerto Rico's Jonathan Garcia, 3-2-1, in a scheduled six-round bout at The Paramount in Huntington.
"I just came up on my first year and I am feeling good," said Seldin, 25. "In terms of long-term goals, I'll have to wait one more year and find out. Right now I'm just focusing on moving down to junior welterweight (from welterweight) and winning on July 28th."
Seldin is a rough and tumble kid who wrestled and played football at Longwood. He brings that same attitude to the ring. He rarely takes a backward step in a fight and has the kind of exciting style that keeps fans coming back. He has won three straight at The Paramount.
"Cletus has had three spectacular knockouts in a row at The Paramount and has become a true fan favorite. The interest from fans and media alike about his return to the ring has been very impressive," said Joe DeGuardia, President of Star Boxing.
Added Seldin, "Even though I live in Eastern Long Island and so does majority of my family and fans, Huntington is and has become our home. The arena is great, the people are great and all the shows have been great."
In the main event, undefeated junior welterweight prospect Chris Algieri, 14-0-0 (7KO's), will battle tough Texas veteran Raul Tovar, 10-5-1 (4KO's). Also on the card are Long Islanders, Alan Gotay, Anthony Karperis and Raul Nuncio.
