Mike Brooks to fight on NBC
Mike "Lefty" Brooks, an unbeaten lightweight from Oceanside, will fight Philadelphia's Karl Dargan in the co-feature of Fight Night on NBC on Nov. 16.
The card will be broadcast beginning at 2:30 p.m. on NBC from Turning Stone Resort Casino in Verona, New York. The main event is a 12-round heavyweight contest between former cruiserweight champion Tomasz Adamek (49-2, 29 KOs) and Vyacheslav Glazkov (15-0-1, 11 KOs). The card is promoted by Main Events.
Brooks, who has spent time training in both Freeport and Westbury, is a rugged southpaw who always makes for an exciting fight. He's 10-0-1 with two knockouts. He last fought in August, scoring a unanimous decision over Joseph Perez (10-2) at Mohegan Sun Casino.
"I feel very blessed and excited to be given the opportunity to fight a known, skilled, undefeated fighter like Dargan," Brooks said. "When I entered the amateur ranks for the first time Dargan was already number one, so he's a veteran and has been around rich competition… I have proven that I have what it takes - and Dargan will see for himself November 16."
Dargan (13-0, 7 KOs) had a standout amateur career. In addition to winning three national titles, he won the Pan Am Games in 2007 and reaching the second round of the World Championships in 2005. He recently served as chief sparring partner for Canelo Alvarez during Alvarez's preparation for the Floyd Mayweather fight.
"Mike Brooks is an undefeated fighter, like me, which means he's not a walk in the park," Dargan said. "I'm sure he doesn't want to lose that 0 so I know he's gonna protect it with all he has. When things get heated in the ring and I step it up to another level, we will see if Brooks can rise to that level.
