NBC launching its 24-hour channel “NBC Sports Network” turned out to be great news for the boxing world. It essentially brought NBC back into the boxing biz. NBC Sports Network's “Fight Night” series will premiere on Saturday, Jan. 21 from Philadelphia.

Philadelphia native Eddie Chambers will take on Sergei Liakhovich in a 10-round heavyweight bout. While the matchup may not necessarily excite the casual fan, boxing followers will get a chance see more of the hot prospects in the sport.

We’re sure that most people will look at this as NBC trying to take on ESPN and its successful “Friday Night Fights” series. As a whole, the NBC Sports Network is competition for ESPN, but the fight series won’t effect each other since one is on Friday and the other on Saturday.

Truth be told, boxing/sports fans probably could care less about the competition between the networks. All they care about is seeing good fights. Hopefully, NBC will deliver.
