MAC CHAMPIONSHIP GAME
Bowling Green (9-3) vs. No. 14 Northern Illinois (12-0), 8:00 p.m.: This game has a lot more meaning than most will believe. First, Northern Illinois is in position to earn an automatic BCS Bowl bid for the second straight season. Under BCS rules, a school from a non-Automatic Qualifier (AQ) conference can earn an automatic bid two ways: If it completes the regular season...Read more »
The respect that Brooklyn natives Paulie Malignaggi and Zab Judah have for each other has always been there. That fact was made even more evident during the Thursday press conference for their Saturday night fight at Barclays Center.
Both fighters, normally brash and cocky during press conferences, were complimentary and respectful toward each other in the Barclays Center main entrance on...Read more »
Adrien Broner has done a lot during his young career. His latest triumph, a split-decision win over Paulie Malignaggi last June despite jumping up two weight classes, might be his biggest accomplishment to date.
Broner (27-0, 22 KOs) took home the WBA welterweight title after that bout. Now he is facing arguably the hardest hitter of his career in Marcos Maidana (34-3, 31 KOs) on Saturday,...Read more »

As expected, Florida State is No. 1, followed by Ohio State and Auburn. As stated in an earlier post, the debate for who should be No. 2 will rage on. Proof is in the pudding as the Buckeyes have just a .0270 lead over Auburn.
How about this for a scenario? Believe it or not, we could see an Alabama-Auburn rematch in the national title game. If Florida State and Ohio State both lose in their...Read more »
Who should be No. 2 in the BCS standings? Conventional wisdom says Ohio State, because it is undefeated.
But should the Buckeyes’ unblemished record be the only thing we take into consideration?
Auburn (11-1) does have one loss, a 35-21 setback at LSU. But the Tigers have been all but flawless since then, beating Mississippi, Georgia, Texas A&M and Alabama during an eight-game winning...Read more »
Is the Heisman Trophy Jameis Winston’s to lose? Assuming a potential sexual assault charge isn’t levied before Heisman votes are due, it could be. Winston was masterful in Florida State’s 37-7 win over Florida, throwing for 327 yards, 3 TDs and 1 INT.
Winston, barring a complete meltdown, should cement his status as the front runner after next weekend's showdown with Duke in the ACC title...Read more »
The college football season clearly has saved its best for the last regular season weekend off the season. Alabama plays at Auburn, Florida hosts Florida State, Texas A&M visits Missouri and Ohio State is at Michigan. Each of those games, and a few others not mentioned, could have some sort of effect on the BCS national championship and the Heisman Trophy race.
No. 1 Alabama (11-0, 7-0...Read more »
